Washington Barn

Washington Barn – Daily Photo

Washington Barn, or perhaps dilapidated Washington House comes from an image I took in ’95 somewhere out around Snoqualmie / NorthBend in Washington State. Either the original slide is a tad out of focus or the slide scan is, or maybe both. The slide is not between glass so it’s not held perfectly flat. But I was hand-held with a telephoto on a cloudy day and, this being film, no option to crank the ISO up to compensate. So what […]

Interior of the main hall of the Musee d'Orsay, Paris, France.

Musée d’Orsay – Daily Photo

The Musée d’Orsay in Paris is one of my favorite galleries. The building dates from around 1900 but, as a mainline train station, it had become obsolete by 1939. In 1970 is was approved for demolition to be replaced by a hotel but, this being France, it was listed as a Historic Monument instead. In December 1986 the building was reborn in its current role of art museum covering mainly French art from 1848 to 1915 and bridging the gap […]

Seine Twilight – Daily Photo

For Valentines Day I thought I’d post a picture of Paris, the City of Lights. Seine Twilight is a view over the River Seine from the Pont de la Concorde. Valentine’s Day is also my wedding anniversary. In New Orleans, eighteen years ago today, I married my beautiful and talented wife, and then I took her to Paris where we lived for the next two years, seeing in the new millennium before returning to Houston and starting our family. Happy […]

French Quarter Door, New Orleans, Louisiana

French Quarter Door – Daily Photo

Today’s photo is of a New Orleans French Quarter Door. Or is is a window? This is one of four similar doors at 612 Dauphine. I was drawn to its weathered appearance, as though its had a hard life and been neglected for many years, shown no love or tenderness, a silent witness to all that has passed before and through it. According to Realtor.com 612 Dauphine is an 1,811 sq ft single family home built in 1916, was listed […]

Reverend Zombies House of Voodoo, French Quarter, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Reverend Zombies House of Voodoo – Daily Photo

Reverend Zombies House of Voodoo can be found at 723 St. Peter Street in the New Orleans French Quarter. I’ve never been inside but it has rave reviews on the internet. Apparently, New Orleans Voodoo is rooted in West African Dahomeyan Vodun, and mixed with elements from French, Spanish and Creole cultures. Nope, I don’t really know what that means either. New Orleans voodoo is related to but distinct from Haitian Vodou. The Reverend Zombies House of Voodoo is owned […]

Angkor Face - giant stone face at Angkor Thom, Cambodia

Angkor Face – Daily Photo

Today’s daily photo, Angkor Face, is quite obviously from Angkor in Cambodia. At this point I don’t know which temple complex this face is from as I’ve misplaced my notes but its probably one of the gates to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. I took this back in ’92. I’ve always meant to go back but not yet made the opportunity. Back then it was still fairly hazardous, Siem Reap was overseen by the United Nations (UNTAC). The agreement […]
