Monthly:April 2010
The iPad I had ordered finally arrived today. I guess for Apple, late April means the last day. My wife, Karen, was at home to receive the delivery. Had I still not had meetings planned I would have wrapped up at the office and rushed home, but I didn’t. The Fedex guy told her everyone seemed to be home today to receive these iPads. My first frustration was that I had to sync the iPad to iTunes before I could […]
I have to say that everyone I have dealt with at Dell has been courteous and professional, they just haven’t solved the problem with Windows 7 and my year-old hardware. Indeed, they have fallen back on the old chestnut of IT support, “When all else fails, blame the user”. A techincian arrived today and installed a new MOBO. The process was relatively quick and painless but what happened after was far from it. He powered up the machine and for […]
So Photoshop CS5 is just around the corner – mid-May (like the nebulous late-April shipping date for the iPad I ordered) so I thought I’d upgrade my Dell Precision T7400 from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit Windows 7 in order to take advantage of the 64-bit, quad-core processor capabilities of CS5 and leverage the 4 GB of RAM I have in the machine – possibly adding more (it will go up to 128 GB of RAM but I’m don’t think my budget […]
I’ve spent some more time looking at my mother’s slides and uncovered this gem from 1967. It shows Wood Street in Swindon, Wiltshire. Taken at 4:10 pm, on a rainy afternoon I’m trying to imagine the camera that was used as this is the only one set I’ve uncovered so far taken on regular 35mm film. This series of 14 images were taken on Agfacolor film. Most of the 14 images appear under-exposed and all now have a strong magenta […]
So I’m not going to write here about strobes or speedlites à la Strobist or Joe McNally, I’m going to write about Adobe Flash and the überhype around the Apple’s decision not to support Adobe Flash on the iPad. Following some of the conversations on Twitter last night I was struck by a comment from Robert Scoble, aka the Scobleizer, “Yikes @mattpat we need to get rid of Flash on @rackspace web site. Totally agreed. iPad is totally going to […]
