Daily Photo – Emerging from a Hong

Emerging from the serene jade green of the hong, it was a tad surprising to see the overcast skies of the world outside.

In today's photo, one of our three has already made it back to the boat and is being hauled on-board.

We're still paddling in the tidal undercut of these karst cliffs.

For some reason, these islands have resisted the dissolution that has eaten away all the rest of the rock. But they're still structures which are relatively soft and the perpetual wave action cuts away at the base leaving these overhangs.

Eventually, the rock above will cleave on some fissure and crash into the bay below. I wonder now what warning, if any, nature gives. I imagine none. Just a sharp ‘crack' and then the of tens of tons of falling rock crashing into the seas below.
