Thought I’d post one more (happier) picture of a giraffe before moving on to another country and another series.
I took this photo as we were headed out of Chobe National Park in Botswana to catch a flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
He was just standing there as we drove on by, no doubt wondering what the hell we were all looking at.
The ancient Greeks and Romans knew of giraffes and according to rumors on the internet, thought that they were a cross between a camel and a leopard, hence the scientific genus name of ‘camelopardalis’. Not sure how they envisioned a camel and a leopard mating, though – probably after copious quantities of wine!
