The Curtis Island Light marks the south side of Camden Harbor, Maine. Built in 1896. this light replaces a light built in 1835 by order of President Jackson. I took this photo several years ago and feel lucky to have been able to do so. The weather wasn’t brilliant the day I drove by. It had started out quite foggy but the cloud had started to lift by the time I got to this destination. There’s no public land on […]
I woke this morning to a sombre grey day. It’s fall here in the USA and it’s not just the political season that is changing. That woke me up to the fact that it’s not just the political season that is changing in the USA. It’s been harder to tell than usual here on the Texas Gulf Coast. The regular season of High School Football (rent Friday Night Lights if you’ve not seen it) has come to a close with […]
Early morning, Cayucos Pier, California. I guess 8:53 am counts as early for a November Saturday morning in this part of the world as there were few people out and about. There was a chill in the air but it was by no means cold. I recall only one person walking their dog along the beach that morning, and there was no one on the pier at all. Shortly after taking this image we packed up our gear and headed […]
At the time of writing, fire crews are working around the clock battling the Soberanes wildfire to the south-east of Bixby Bridge and slowly approaching Big Sur. I would imagine right now this area is cloaked in smoke. When I took this image, it was mid-November. Summer fire season – June to September – was over. November falls into Santa Ana fire season – October to April. So in California, especially after the drought of the last several years, fire […]
It’s been a while since I last posted to my blog – busy days and nights. Earlier today I was scrolling through a Lightroom catalog and this image taken beneath Cayucos Pier, early in the morning last November struck my eye. I decided to process it in Black and White to give the image more of a timeless feel. In the top of the image you have the pilings marching into the distance while a wave is crashing to the […]
For today’s photo I chose an image of one set of air vents at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston, TX. The building is named after Houston engineer George Rufus Brown, who joined his brother, Herman, in his fledgling engineering company, Brown and Root, in 1922. I worked with successor company, KBR, from 2009 – 2013. In these air vents I find similarities with the services of the Pompidou Center in Paris. And when I lived in […]
