Fleur-de-Lys Spangled Banner

Daily Photo – Fleur-de-Lys Spangled Banner

2010 was the first year I actually noticed these ‘only in Louisiana’ variations on Old Glory – the flag of the United States. This one was flying from the porch of a house on Napoleon Avenue in New Orleans. I’m fairly sure these flags have passed through my line of vision in prior years also but 2010, following the Saint’s Superbowl win, these flags were in relative abundance along the parade routes to the point they could not be ignored. However, I did like to scene of this farm with the contrast of the red barns, sand house and green alfalfa fields, so I tried a few shots and this one was my favorite. In […]

Palacios Harbor

Daily Photo – Palacios Harbor

I was struck by the lemon-yellow building in this scene. It sits at the entrance to the leisure boat marina in Palacios, Texas. In the background is part of the fishing fleet – shrimp, crabs and oysters being the main business in this town. The yellow building typifies one of the things I love about the houses that line the Texas Gulf coast – bright, vibrant, saturated colors. The blue sails and awnings and the red covers on the boats […]
