Harbour Town is a marina/shopping/restaurant area of the Sea Pines zone on Calibogue Sound at the southern end of Hilton Head island, South Carolina. According to their website, the lighthouse was the first privately financed lighthouse built in the USA since the early 1800’s.
This old Texaco Station sits at the intersection of routes 178 and 303 (Ace Basin Pkwy and Green Pond Hwy) near Green Pond, South Carolina. I spotted it while driving from Charleston to Savannah one day and couldn’t resist framing a shot. Were I passing by again now, I’d probably shoot a bracket for an HDR given the structural qualities of the scene and the tonal range. The USS Yorktown (CV-10) was the tenth aircraft carrier to serve in the US Navy. Commissioned in April 1943, she saw action in the Pacific, replacing CV-5 (also named USS Yorktown) lost at the Battle of Midway. She was build in just sixteen-and-a-half months!
Taken around 3:00pm on a late January afternoon, the trees are all devoid of leaves. The sun was still high enough in the sky to light the face of the barn and the gate without interruption from the shadows of the trees.
Unlike yesterday’s image, this one took a bit more effort. I didn’t see the abandoned row-boat when I pulled the car off the road, just the inlet. It was as I was trying to get a better perspective on the inlet that I spied the boat in the weeds. I took this photo back in the fall of 2010 when making a run-and-gun trip though Maine. Its another road-side photo. I’ve no idea if this stream has a name but it flows under Route 193 in Deblois.
