Sunset from the Hotel Sofitel, Miami

Our suite on the 15th floor had great views to the west but there were some downsides to the hotel. It’s just across the freeway from Miami International Airport so depending on the direction of the traffic you can be kept awake by aircraft noise. The other downside is that without a car you’re captive – there’s nothing within walking distance of the hotel.

With a multi-capture HDR I’d have been able to get a much crisper shot of the moon. As it is, I’m quite happy with the sharpness given this was hand held at a shutter speed of 0.4 seconds after two glasses of wine!

You can get a hint of the architecture in this historic hotel from this image. The wooden structure on the left is actually a bird cage. There were a number of colorful small birds within both this enclosure and a similar one on the other side of the lobby. As mentioned before, I’m not an ornithologist so I’ll just stick with ‘birds’.

Daily Photo – Ocean Drive Miami – Inspiration

When we entered our hotel, a photo hanging on one of the walls of our suite gave met the answer. The photo was of three buildings clearly on Ocean Drive. The photo had no attribution that I could find and my wife told me the other rooms she’d stayed at in that particular hotel had the same image on the walls. Initially I thought it was quite old but then noticed the 1990’s era Mercedes E190 parked on the street.
