The Beach Paradise Hotel sits at the intersection of Ocean Drive and 6th Street in South Beach, Miami. It was looking a tad beat down on the day I photographed it. The main awning the the left of the entrance was torn away while several of the awnings over the windows of the upper floor on both the front and side of the hotel we similarly ripped.

When we entered our hotel, a photo hanging on one of the walls of our suite gave met the answer. The photo was of three buildings clearly on Ocean Drive. The photo had no attribution that I could find and my wife told me the other rooms she'd stayed at in that particular hotel had the same image on the walls. Initially I thought it was quite old but then noticed the 1990's era Mercedes E190 parked on the street.

Johnny Rockets is a diner chain found across the US. It's reported charm is it's 50's ambiance. I've never been into one so I wouldn't know. What drew me to pause was all that red vinyl furniture set out on the sidewalk. The horizontal layout of that element contrasted with the vertical element of the three blue dots.

These past few days I've been working with a beta evaluation copy of onOne software's Perfect Photo Suite 7. I'm just sticking with the Perfect Effects 4 and Perfect B&W 1 modules and I'm using them from within Photoshop CS6 rather than from within Lightroom or stand-alone.

I was drawn to this scene by the color matching of the restaurant's orange awnings and yellow walls with the pain scheme of the Chevy Bel Air parked outside. I'm guessing the owner/operators of the two are the same which leads me to my next question - was the restaurant decorated to match the Chevy or was the Chevy re-painted to match the restaurant?

I noticed an observatory on the top of 'The Villa by Barton G' as it is now officially titled, originally the Casa Casuarina and more commonly known as the Versace House. I thought it quite curious that there was an observatory here. I doubt there's still a telescope there and I'd wager the light pollution from the local neighborhood would render all but the brightest stars invisible if there is.
