I took this photo of windsor from Legoland as we were leaving in the evening. The parking lot and entrance is on the top of the escarpment and the park attractions are placed on the hillside and at the bottom. So at the end of the day, you either have to hike back up the hillside or take the small train.
From the top of the hill there's a great view over windsor but with the park only open in the summer and with the closing time relatively early, you don't get the best in the way of light – there are no golden hour opportunities for a member of the public as far as I can tell.
In recent years, as digital storage costs have come down, I've taken to shooting for HDR as a default. You can always delete images. You can't always go back if you miss one.
Since none of the three images really stands on its own, I decided to save them from digital damnation by combining them in an HDR, using Photomatix.
I opted for a more fairytale, picture book representation than a photographic representation inspired in part by my own fairytale princess who was all into princesses, castles, etc. at the time.
With all the trees hiding the roads and freeways and the aircraft taking off from Heathrow behind the castle cloned out, I really don't think this view has changed much over the last 200 years when the Round Tower was raised a further 30 ft to be more imposing. Parts of Windsor Castle date back to the 11th century following the Norman invasion but if was successively built out over the following centuries. Since the early 19th century, most of the changes have been to the interior.
The Ferris Wheel sits in Alexandra Park on the south bank of the River Thames. From my location to the Round Tower is about 2.5 miles or 4 km.
