Daily Photo – Four Chamber Dwelling

I don't think this four chamber dwelling was in the Lookout but it was certainly close by.

I didn't have a flash with me back when I took this in 1990. I was very much ‘available light' back then and, when photographing a and blocking the entrance, well, there's not much light available.

My grab bag today has two speedlites in it to give me more flexibility and they would certainly have come in handy in lighting the interior of this four chamber dwelling.

You'll notice if you've followed this series that the portals to the inner chambers are not squared off but rounded. Clearly there was no intent to plug these with a wooden door. Interestingly, to me at any rate, is the similarity in the shape of the portals to the fourth and third chambers.

Up in the top right corner is some form of niche. Maybe former occupants set an lamp there.

It kills me now to look at how few photos I took. The problem I faced, of course, was that my film supply was limited and I had to make it last the ten weeks of the tour – there was no opportunity to replenish my stock. The net net of course is that I don't have a better photo of the niche.

In the next chamber you can see sand piled up on the right side and more gravel on the left. That's probably due to the way the wind blows around. The gravel is more likely to be ceiling erosion than anything blown in here by the wind. The disturbance in the sand and gravel in the floor was made by me. It had been a long time since a human had last ventured in here.
