Daily Photo – Ouch!

Of course,we couldn't leave our wrecked homage to the Wright Brothers in the dunes, we had to recover it. Some joker had written ‘Ouch!!' on the door after the flight and before the recovery.

Back in camp, it was slowly stripped for spares, like an organ donor.

When I worked in South Africa there was a lot of discussion as to why we had so many vehicle rollovers compared to other locations. Most of what we were being compared against were equipped with 109 series Rovers.

The 100 Defender Rovers had more power than the 109s and we wrecked them at a higher rate also.

More power, more wrecks. It's not really rocket science.

To get the into the back of the Bedford, the mechanics hoisted it in the air with our HIAB hydraulic crane and the Bedford truck was reversed under it. Back in camp the mechanics did the reverse, lifted it clear of the base of the truck and drove the truck away. That way avoided swinging the load which would have increased the risk of tipping the HIAB truck over.

Ouch!
