Daily Photo – Heading Up River

Upon arrival in Brunei I had to apply for a work permit. As in most countries, this was not a snappy process so every 30 days until it came in we had to do a border run. Later we'd run to Miri but for my first run, our Mr. Fixit decided we needed to go to Limbang, in , Malaysia. For this we drove from Belait to the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan and then took a water taxi. If my memory serves, there were just four of us plus the driver on this boat.

I was taken with the speed delivered by these twin, 2.6 liter, V6, 175 horse-power Yamaha outboards. That was, until our Mr. Fixit started telling stories about these boats hitting trees floating down-river. Fortunately that didn't happen on this trip. I'd neglected to tell my employer I couldn't swim and waited till I was in-country as otherwise I wouldn't have qualified. During my year in I did learn to swim, and then to water ski, and then to dive.
