To the right you can see examples of the limestone cliffs that feature in this area. Up in the hills in the top left corner you can see a collapsed surface. These highlight some of the challenges of hiking in this area. The terrain makes it extremely difficult but you could be hiking along and find yourself on the edge of a cliff. Being so far from help, that's why you stay on the trails.

About a month before I took this photo this area was gazetted for preservation and transformation to new business. Now the area looks well maintained, the roofs all made of a consistent red clay material replacing the rusted corrugated iron and other tile roofs and the area is a hive of restaurants, bars and shops.

I guess you could get to the Phi Phi Islands by sea plane but boat is the norm. And that's the normal way to leave too. I took this image as the ferry carried me back to Phuket. The sea was relatively calm but the occasionally the boat would crash through the swell as captured here as I watched the island disappear in the wake of the boat.

Every time I've seen the Chao Phraya River its been this muddy brown color owing to all the silt washing down from the hills to the north. The boat is a long-tail. It has all the appearance of an auto engine with a straight shaft output to the propeller mounted on gimbals on the transom.
