Image of the Calgary Tower bathed in blue light

Calgary Tower Blues

What could be better than standing on the sidewalk outside the Calgary Tower on an early March evening? Anything. Literally anything. That could be too harsh. The temperature was a balmy freezing that night. When I was last in Calgary, this past January, the low was -26°C/-15°F. Needless to say, I wasn’t out on the streets that night. The Calgary Tower opened to the public on June 30, 1968. At that time is was the tallest building in Canada west […]

Signs of Life is an image of a demolished building in Alicante, Spain.

Signs of Life

As Texas reels once more from a reliance on faith over science, my image, Signs of Life, refers not to the re-opening of the Texas economy but to a demolition site in Alicante, Spain. As I wandered the streets, camera in hand, my mind just buzzed with questions. Taken in March 1999, my wife and I were on a break from Paris. So far, that remains my only trip to Spain. Hyatt Place, Chicago/Downtown

On the edge of the core, the Hyatt Place Chicago/Downtown is three blocks north of the Willis Tower and eight blocks west of the Cloud Gate (The Bean). To ensure the kids kept quite after lights out we would put a strip of scotch tape across the door […]

Goat Mountain reflected in Goat Pond

Goat Mountain lies about 10 miles south south east of Canmore in Alberta, Canada. Of course, if you’re Canadian, since 1977 that’ll be about 16 kilometers – that’s as the crow flies. It’s a bit longer by the road which twists and turns through the mountain passes and along the valleys. Out of Canmore you take Alberta 742, otherwise known as the Smith Dorrien Trail, and follow it south till you get to Goat Pond. Here I’m shooting almost due […]
