Order a print of this photo So yesterday’s photo was looking at old Ghadames from the outside in. Apart from the shadow of the palm tree there’s little to indicate the lush oasis within the city walls. The city walls protected the oasis. Within the city, in addition to the network of passageways, there’s a network of water ditches (and now pipes) that conserve precious water better than open ditches. This photo was taken from just outside the old wall, near the water pool. The white tower and dome is part of one of the mosque complexes in the town – the white paint also serving to reduce the temperature on the inside.
