Daily Photo – Fishing Boats off Phi Phi Island

I can’t actually place where I took this photo but I’m thinking it’s more likely Koh Phi Phi Ley than Koh Phi Phi Don, largely because the photos around it in my collection show all the hallmarks of having been taken from a moving small boat – horizons far from level! I think this image shows the vertical scale of the limestone outcrops that form these islands.

I love the tight crop on this image that eliminates the sky and thereby accentuates the height of the limestone cliffs. You can just make out a small beach and a hut in the center of the photo. The aqua water is shallower than the blue water. If you look closely you can see a thin line of aqua on the far shore also. The ferries and fishing boats typically stayed in the blue water to avoid grounding.

Daily Photo – Loh Dalam Bay Sunset

Having captured yesterday’s shot of the dipping sun illuminating the fishing boat in Loh Dalam Bay I faced my camera the other way towards the sun. Since I’m working with a slide scan and was too lazy to re-scan it with different settings, I’m stuck with the colors captured in the slide. The challenge here is that there was no obvious neutral mid-tone from which to correct the color balance.
