It’s said that the eye is immediately drawn to red items. I think that’s certainly the case in this image where I find my eye is immediately drawn to the Dr. Pepper can. But what I find even more curious is the total absence of Coca-Cola cans. I’ve looked over and over but don’t see a single one.
I spotted this particular specimen having left Grand Canyon West, gotten back onto Pierce Ferry Road, and heading north to Pearce Ferry and South Cove. In the background of this shot is Grapevine Mesa.
It’s called Guano Point because some intrepid explorer noticed a bunch of bats flying in and out of caves in the canyon walls. So they set up an operation, building gantries at the top of the canyon and scaling down the cliffs to the caves, so they could harvest the guano.
So, continuing with the theme from yesterday, this is what it’s like to look down the face of the Hoover Dam. The Colorado River is about 700 feet below the top of the dam. To the left is Arizona, to the right is Nevada. The white concrete shape in the top right corner is part of the visitor’s center.
