Cars approaching Bixby Bridge on California State Highway 1

Cars on Bixby Bridge at Sunset – Daily Photo

At the time of writing, fire crews are working around the clock battling the Soberanes wildfire to the south-east of Bixby Bridge and slowly approaching Big Sur. I would imagine right now this area is cloaked in smoke. When I took this image, it was mid-November. Summer fire season – June to September – was over. November falls into Santa Ana fire season – October to April. So in California, especially after the drought of the last several years, fire […]

Under Cayucos Pier – Daily Photo

It’s been a while since I last posted to my blog – busy days and nights. Earlier today I was scrolling through a Lightroom catalog and this image taken beneath Cayucos Pier, early in the morning last November struck my eye. I decided to process it in Black and White to give the image more of a timeless feel. In the top of the image you have the pilings marching into the distance while a wave is crashing to the […]

Sunset from the Artists Palette, Death Valley National Park.

Sunset at the Artists Palette – Daily Photo

Sunset at the Artists Palette was taken in Death Valley National Park. The aim was to capture the ‘starburst’ as the sun kissed the tops of the Panamint Range across Death Valley. The direct view has produced some pretty dramatic flare […]

Death Valley Health Center – Daily Photo

Sometimes a sign is too good to pass up. When I passed the ‘Death Valley Health Center’ sign in Shoshone I just had to pull over and capture an image. It reminded me of a sign I once saw in Bennington, Vermont (I’ve yet to scan that one so will save it for a future post). I think it was the juxtaposition of the phrases ‘Death Valley’ and ‘Health Center’ that struck me as somewhat ironic. The name of the […]

Waiting for a Zabriskie Sunrise – Daily Photo

The Zabriskie Sunrise, that time of day when the sun directly illuminates Manly Beacon and the badlands that surround it. Its a very short walk from the parking lot, up the hill, to the viewing area at Zabriskie Point but most people walk a little further for even better views. Manly Beacon is the peak in the midground on the right of the frame. Here you can see the direct sunlight creeping it’s way down the Panamint range on the […]
