One of my goals for 2012 is to post a photo daily. It's the first of the year so this is the first photo!

I took this photo of Meteor Crater back in 2006 while flying on a commercial jet from Las Vegas to Houston. Meteor Crater is about 40 miles west of Winslow, Arizona. If you find yourself in the area it's well worth a detour. There's a visitor center on the northern rim with good views into the crater. For the more athletic, you can actually down into the crater. I'm not that athletic. Still, there are not many places on this planet where you have such open access to a moonscape (or marsscape given the reddish tinge to this image). No wonder conspiracy theorists think the moon landings were a hoax!
