Daily Photo – Marsh Benham

Marsh Benham lies a few miles west of Newbury, in Berkshire, England. Here the river Kennet and the Kennet and Avon flow along side each other flowing to the east to join the river Thames at reading.

The canal tow path runs along the north side of the canal through this stretch and it was from that tow path that I took this photo.

The summer house sits on a small with the river threading around it. I can imagine when it was new it was a great place to sit and or sit and watch the river flow by. But by the time I took this photo it appears it's best days were behind it.

The photo was taken one April morning, the spring not yet advanced enough for the trees to have come back to life.

Most days this stretch of water is calm and un-populated – a nice place for a walk and a think. The traffic noise from the A4 to the north is muffled by several hedgerows and lines of trees but the sound of a train can jolt you if you're not expecting it.

Close by is The Red House – well worth a stop if you're passing my near lunch time or in the evening!
