Daily Photo – A Camel in the Dunes

Here's another photo of a camel in the dunes. It's the same camel as in yesterday's photo.

This camel has decided not to attempt to climb the slip face of the line of dunes in front of him and has decided to explore on my direction to see if there's an easier crossing.

Well, that's my thought, for what it's worth. I've no idea what was driving this beast to be here at all, nor what was driving it to be somewhere else.

Like all animals, I'm sure it was seeking food and water, not that there was any in evidence here though the odd scrubby bush suggested some moisture trapped in the .

Maybe it had passed this way before and it knew where it was. It was actually pretty easy to navigate here with lots of landmarks to help you, even if you weren't on the tracks. The huge jebel in the distance being one of those landmarks.

I'm struggling to recall why I was up here at all. One of our survey lines must have passed close by. And, the angle I have on the camel, looking down on it, suggests that the dunes were increasing in height to where I was.

In this image I'm looking roughly north-east. The line of dunes suggests the wind here is predominantly from the south and south-east. It blows the up the gentle slope where it then tumbles down the steeper slip face. The line of dunes also tend to elongate in the direction of the movement.
