Daily Photo – Generations

My assumption is that the young boy is sitting on his grandfather's lap while they watch the show together. Penang, 1989.

Here’s the last in this series taken at a street theater in Georgetown, Penang on August 4, 1989. The only illumination on the audience was the spill of the stage lights so this is an available light shot sot on ISO 100 Fuji Provia. My guess is that the boy is the grandson of the bespectacled gent in whose lap his is sitting. It’s a curious thing when different generations watch a play together. The younger generation has less experience upon which to interpret what they are seeing. From my own experience with my children, they come away from a play with a whole different perspective, often more direct and less nuanced that the perspective of an older person.
