Sunrise at High Island, Texas

Sunday January 2nd was my 48th birthday. As a present, my family graciously gave me the day off. I had previously decided I would like to amble along the Bolivar Peninsular so I took the opportunity to do so. I’ve never been to High Island before so approaching in the darkness, I was unsure exactly what I’d find. What I found, where State Highway 124 intersects State Highway 87 at the beach, was this nodding donkey. High Island is so […]

Thanksgiving 2010

Once again I’m traveling and once again I’m relying on my iPad. Following a conversation with David Ziser I purchased a Delkin Devices card reader to transfer files from my camera to my iPad. When I used it a week ago I got a good transfer rate transferring images from my CF card. Today, with my iPad battery reading 69% when I try to download the the images from an SD card im getting a message telling me the card […]

Hurricane Katrina

Five years ago this morning, hurricane Katrina made landfall near the Louisiana-Mississippi border as at Category 3 with sustained winds at 120 mph. With my wife’s family hailing from New Orleans, hurricane Katrina changed all of our lives in ways we never anticipated. These photos were take on May 28, 2006, some eight months after the storm. Most of these were taken in the 9th Ward, just a few blocks from the breach in the walls of the Industrial Canal. […]

Hobby Airport

I recently flew from Houston to New Orleans on Southwest Airlines, just so I could have the pleasure of driving from New Orleans back to Houston the following day. I’ve spent many days driving Houston and New Orleans along I-10,  less so since Katrina, but I digress. I like Houston’s Hobby Airport. It’s close to downtown, it’s compact, and it’s friendly. There is only the one public terminal and the security line runs efficiently. I used to love the experience […]

Laser Tag

A few weeks back my son, Evan, turned 9. To celebrate we hosted a group of his friends at the Times Square entertainment complex in Katy. After an hour of bowling they got to play midway games then a session of Laser Tag. Since my earliest visits to this complex I’ve been wondering what it would be like to take photos in the black-lit arena. Obviously it’s dark inside and a flash would kill the atmosphere. The image above was […]

Wood Street, 1967

I’ve spent some more time looking at my mother’s slides and uncovered this gem from 1967. It shows Wood Street in Swindon, Wiltshire. Taken at 4:10 pm, on a rainy afternoon I’m trying to imagine the camera that was used as this is the only one set I’ve uncovered so far taken on regular 35mm film. This series of 14 images were taken on Agfacolor film. Most of the 14 images appear under-exposed and all now have a strong magenta […]
