As part of the general plan to revitalize downtown a few years back, the city acquired several downtown blocks near the George R. Brown (yes, same Brown as in Brown Shipbuilding and KBR) Convention Center. On it they built the Toyota Center – home to the Rockets and Houston Aeros – and the Hilton Americas, Houston. They also turned what used to be a sad collection of vacant and derilict lots across the street from the convention center and built the highly popular Discovery Green – an urban park that's become the home for many civic events, including New Years' celebrations.

At this time, though, the Hilton Americas is still several blocks from restaurants etc. so some people I know who stay there frequently refer to it still being in the wilderness.

This is a shot of the rear of the hotel. I like the strong lines in the here. Since I like saturated colors, I've upped the saturation in this image. People familiar with the building will recognize the colors as being more muted in real life.
