Daily Photo – What Not to Wear

What not to wear on Mount Kinabalu. I didn't notice for quite a while as I processed this image that there are two people in it! 1989.

This whole series of Mount Kinabalu photos was captured on 35mm slide film back in 1989. It wasn’t till I’d finished running the image below through Topaz and Nik Color Efex that I realized there were two people in the image.

Sitting lower left is my Norwegian best-friend-forever-for-the-morning. With his white shirt and jeans he’s fairly obvious. But to his right is my Italian best-friend-forever-for-the-morning in a grey windbreaker/rain jacket. He blends pretty well with the rock!

Even before my oil exploration career, basic hiking training in the UK had emphasized the need to wear clothing that contrasted with the surroundings to aid search and rescue teams in finding you if you get lost or injured. Clearly up here on the exposed granodiorite at the summit of Mount Kinabalu, a grey windbreaker definitely falls into the what not to wear category!

This photo was taken at the same location as yesterday’s but looking west rather than south.

The small yellow structure on the vertical center line of this image is the Laban Rata resthouse from where I'd set off some four to five hours earlier.
