Daily Photo – Gunung Mulu National Park

Low clouds fill the valley in this shot taken in the hills of the Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak.

I arrived at Gunung Mulu National Park late in the afternoon – too late to explore. Of course, in 1989 the facilities and amenities were much less developed than they are now and it would be many years before the iPod would be invented, so I just hung out listening to the bugs till late into the evening.

In the morning I went for a hike in the hills above the Melinau River. Down by the river it was a foggy day but the hike up the hillside took me out of the fog to the point where I could photograph it from above. In the image below one layer of cloud fills the valley while another layer obscures the ridge running towards Mount Mulu.
