Daily Photo – Rickshaw Driver

These tricycle rickshaws were a common sight in Georgetown back in 1989. I don't know if they still are. I don't recall ever riding on one. If my memory serves I rented a Honda 90 to get around when I wanted to go further afield. But most of the time I just wandered the streets.

The appears to be checking his wallet. I doubt he was about to buy some diamonds but I think he may have brought someone to the store or was waiting for a fare to come out.

The passengers sit up front. There's an awning to protect the passengers from the rain or the sun but it's been collapsed back, like the roof of a convertible. The is there to protect the driver from the rain or the sun as he pedals is fares about.

Of course, he's wearing the obligatory flip-flops, or as I used to call them, Vietnamese Combat Boots.

For my American readers, ‘Jewellery' is the British English way of spelling Jewelry.
