On the Friday morning I had worked my way south along Ocean Drive, shooting the art deco buildings that line the drive. I did take a slight detour to take another photograph of the 12th Street Lifeguard Station.
While the beach had been pretty deserted on the Friday the same could not be said of the Saturday. Most of the sun worshipers on the Saturday must have been locals or semi locals – there were lots of families. I say this because there were relatively few tourists to be seen on the Friday.
Trying to make the most of the near-captive audience, advertising planes would fly south-to-north along the beach advertising night club deals. They'd fly up the beach a ways and then head out to sea and circle around over and over again.
I had walked back down through the park to re-take my shot of the Park Central Hotel. I then thought I'd walk back up the surf line to where my wife was lounging under a Boucher Brothers umbrella. That was not my best idea! Years ago when I worked in Libya and Oman, hiking through the sand was normal. Now, many years later my muscle-memory for this activity has long since faded and I found I had to head back up to the firmer sand away from the water to make decent progress.
Realizing I'd only shot the 12th Street Lifeguard station from the rear the previous day, I decided to try again. I wasn't lugging my 5D Mark IICanon 28-300mmCanon S100
