Daily Photo – Everglades 13

Today's photos were taken shortly after yesterday's. The difference is I framed them vertically which further emphasizes the . Like all the shots in my Everglades series it's a three-shot 4EV range HDR. Also like most of the it was taken while the airboat was in motion. Since the primary features are the and the , the movement only shows lightly in the sawgrass nearest the camera.

I played around with the conversion to make the whole image darker, the more threatening. That's one of the huge advantages of digital over film – you can easily make a wide variation of ‘looks'. In the darkroom it would take a lot more effort in dodging and burning, masking, etc. to craft a particular look that can be done today in a few layers with a few brush strokes. All of which is a round about way of saying I admire the printers of yore who would toil away in the darkroom to craft images from the negatives entrusted to them. I was never that good in the darkroom – I lacked the patience.
