Daily Photo – Everglades 5

A thunderstorm rolls across the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area-Water Conservation Area 3B of the Florida Everglades.

While we were out in the grasslands we could see numerous thunder storms rolling across the Everglades from east to west. It was quite breezy out there and I couldn’t get a shutter speed high enough to freeze the motion of the sawgrass and still get some depth of field so I opted for aperture over speed. On the horizon in the middle of this shot is a clump of trees that we were heading for but first we had to watch where the storm beyond it was going. Sitting atop an aluminum airboat in a huge flat expanse of wetlands is certainly not one of the recommended behaviors in the Boy Scout handbook for what to do in a thunderstorm!

On the horizon on the right edge of the image is a radio mast. I could have cropped it out but decided to leave it in. This was one of the landmarks my Captain used to navigate these wetlands. Another prominent landmark was a cement plant. Find these landmarks and you pretty much know where you are.
