The Bass Harbor Head Light is perhaps the most photographed of the Maine lighthouses.

Built in 1858, this marks the entrance to Blue Hill and warns mariners of the Bass Harbor bar at the eastern entrance to the harbor.

Located at the southwestern point of Mt. Desert Island this is easily accessible. I took a marked trail from the parking lot that leads down to these boulders but I had a bit of a scramble to get out to this actual location.

There's another short path off the parking lot to the Keeper's cottage but the cottage is not open to visitors and the view is not as dramatic.
