Victoria Falls from ZimbabweOrder a print of this photo

After slumming it through Botswana in tents erected by others, we ended our trip with a couple of nights in a hotel at Victoria Falls. While comfortable, the hotel evoked an era long since past.

I took this photo from one of the viewpoints just north of the Victoria Falls Visitor's Center. I don't recall the Visitor's Center so I may have skipped it to spend more time watching the falls.

The Zambezi River here is a little over a mile wide and the water cascades from various spots into a mile-long gorge.

This view, pretty much looking east shows the second western-most cascade. The most westerly cascade is out of shot to the left.

As you can see from the rainbow, it gets quite wet at the top of the falls with clouds of spray reaching up into the , almost steam-like, except . Looking closely, this is a double rainbow but the outer rainbow is much weaker.

Some people wear jackets which might be wise if you're dressed in your finest. But if you're in shorts and a T-shirt, just get wet. The sun will soon dry you off. Note that this does not apply to cell-phones, iPods, camera's etc. Those you still need to protect from the clouds of mist!
