Daily Photo – Carter Road Lift Bridge

The two bridges in this view span the river at Carter Road. The blue bridge is active and carries the road traffic. The rusting bridge in front of it carried one of the railway spurs that used to serve the industrial area known locally as The Flats.

Yes, my wife is from New Orleans and we try to get there for the weekend if it falls right with our kids’ school holidays. I posted a series of images from Mardi Gras earlier this year which you can view here: http://www.richarddavisphotography.com/category/usa/new-orleans/mardi-gras/

Do you stop and smell the roses?

So I follow a bunch of Photographers over on Google+, one of them being Brian Matiash. Brian had a post recently where he stated he found it very challenging to stop and smell the roses. Since Brian’s post was illustrated with a view towards Otter Cliff, Acadia, Maine, I decided to illustrate this post with…

You have to allow yourself to shake things up! And sometimes, just so you remember what it’s like to simply relax and enjoy the sights for their own merits, try to leave the camera at home! (IT IS very hard to do I know!)
By changing up your methods you may find yourself pleasantly surprised! Getting out of a creative rut by doing things differently usually opens up new methods and focuses you never would have tried before!

The Dawn of a New Era in Photography

On October 19, 2011, Ren Ng and his team at Lytro ushered in a new era in photography with the introduction of the Lytro Light Field Camera. What’s so revolutionary? The fact that you can refocus the picture AFTER you’ve taken it. If you visit the Picture Gallery page on the Lytro website you can…

A south african ranger told me the difference is also the inner colour of their mouth. Crocodiles have a yellow, alligators a more pink colour. So if your head is in…… You’ll see the difference ;-)

Man, I hope I never get that close! Thanks for the great information.

I think the closest I got to your location when I was in South Africa in the late 1980s was around the Three Rondavels a little to the south of you. You’re in a truly fantastic part of the world and I hope to get back there one day!

Great post! I especially like the first alligator, with skin like lava flow.

14 minutes with Scott Kelby and Joe McNally

Over on Scott Kelby’s blog today is a link to a really interesting conversation between Scott Kelby and Joe McNally. Sans interviewer, the pair have a conversation about where there photography has come from and where it is going. Among the takeaways are: Get it right in the camera (to spend less time at the…
