Daily Photo – Storm over Fort Myers Part 2

The cruising speed of a Boeing 737 is a shade over 500 miles per hour (all things being equal) so we’d traveled about eight miles closer to the cloud wall. Add to that the cloud wall was moving west, towards us and that yields the change in the cloud shapes between the two photo-sets.

Daily Photo – Brunei Sunset

The relatively short dusk duration is captured in this image with the yellows of the setting sun to the west and the darkening skies of night to the east.

Daily Photo – Bothaville Sunset 3

As you can see, the ground in the camp was quite waterlogged, though this wasn’t the worst camp site flood by quite some measure. See the image at the bottom of the post for the most waterlogged camp site!

Daily Photo – Reivilo Clouds

As my faded memory recalls, pretty much every afternoon at around 3:00 pm, the clouds would build us and a series of thunder storms would roll through. The noise from the rain and thunder rendered our seismic recording an exercise in futility so we’d return to camp, and face the prospect of cooking once again.

Why were you stuck with the Olympus XA in Lybia?

Richard Davis PhotographyMay 19, 2012 - 12:32 pm

This was when I was in Libya in 1984-86. Shortly before I went someone from inside the Libyan embassy in London had shot and killed PC Yvonne Fletcher so relations were tense. The Libyan police and army were unpredictable at best and the advice from the Foreign office and from my employer was to avoid drawing attention to ones self. Hence the point-and-shoot.

I’ve no idea what this piece is called, nor who the artist is, nor anything else about the piece. I’d love to know more if anyone out there reading has any knowledge or Norwegian friends.

Hi Richard,

Oslo is a really interesting place. They have a lot of things and places which are interesting. For the case that you will visit Oslo again, you should visit the Vigelandpark. Gustav Vigeland built 212 sculptures which are presented in the Frognerpark. Very impressive.

By the way: you have visited already a lot of countries and have a lot of impressive and excellent photographs on your website.

Have a nice day.

Greets

Detlef

Daily Photo – Grand Rapids Sunset

What I liked particularly about this scene was the strip of cloud obscuring the sun. Below the cloud, the sun is casting radiant colors while above the sun is illuminating the higher clouds seemingly from below making the bottoms white and the tops grey.
