Category Archives: South Carolina Harbour Town is a marina/shopping/restaurant area of the Sea Pines zone on Calibogue Sound at the southern end of Hilton Head island, South Carolina. According to their website, the lighthouse was the first privately financed lighthouse built in the USA since the early 1800′s.  This old Texaco Station sits at the intersection of routes 178 and 303 (Ace Basin Pkwy and Green Pond Hwy) near Green Pond, South Carolina. Liked the one above, love the one below with the yellow removed.  The five flags below the current US flag in this image represent the five flags that flew over the fort during the Civil War.  The first Tomcats entered service in 1972 and they were retired from service in 2006. The two Pratt & Whitney TF-30 turbofans with afterburners could take the aircraft up to 1544 mph.  The USS Yorktown (CV-10) was the tenth aircraft carrier to serve in the US Navy. Commissioned in April 1943, she saw action in the Pacific, replacing CV-5 (also named USS Yorktown) lost at the Battle of Midway. She was build in just sixteen-and-a-half months!
